Magnesium alloy etching solution
Soln. contains 500-800 H3PO4 and 5-60 H2SO4 g/l, and gives surfaces of improved surface finish.
Magnesium Alloy in Contact with Coated Components.
The galvanic couple corrosion of a magnesium alloy in contact with various coated components (e.g, fastening devices, threaded bushing, plugs and screws) was studied. The coating systems were zinc/nickel coating and cathodic immersion paint, zinc coatings and cathodic immersion paint, thick galvanised zinc coating and silicate sealant, galvanised zinc plus yellow chromate plus organic coating, and lamellar coating of zinc and aluminium with organic components.
Magnesium alloy part and production method thereof.
A magnesium alloy part includes a part body composed of a magnesium alloy containing aluminum; a paint film at least partially covering the part body; and a magnesium fluoride layer provided immediately under the paint film. The magnesium alloy has an aluminum content of about 6.5 weight % or less.

Magnesium Anodisation System and Methods.
Anodising magnesium material immersed in an aqueous electrolyte solution having a pH about 7, and in the presence of a phosphate, the electrolyte solution also containing a sequestering agent. The method may further include the provision of a plasma suppressing substance within the electrolyte solution. Furthermore, the electrolyte solution may also preferably include a tertiary amine such a TEA, and the current passed through the electrolyte solution may preferably be a straight DC current.
Decorative, corrosion resistant finishes on Mg & alloys are described, incl. film structures formed in chromate & non chromate sol'ns as well as further property enhancement by use of topcoat.`
Magnesium Anodising Bath Control
Magnesium anodising reaction kinetics
Review of chemistry & electrochemistry of title process & implications for corrosion resistance. Abstract only.
Magnesium as a material of construction ? Corrosion need not be a problem
Magnesium is prone to corrosion in part because it is intrinsically a reactive metal, but also because of impurities which can be present. The manner in which these occur (during metallurgical processing) is explained, as are means for minimising their incidence., e.g by lowering casting temperatures. Conversion coatings based on phosphate-permanganate are an alternative to chromate, and manganese-based and "Anomag" (anodised) finishes are also noted.
Magnesium as alternative to plastics for automotive interior components
Mg (alloy) is compared to metallised thermoplastic plastics such as ABS, PC etc. Table lists properties incl. density, wall thickness, tensile strength, modulus etc. All of these can be electroplated to produce visually attractive finishes.
