C-axis orientation of AlN films prepared by ECR PECVD
AlN films were deposited on Si substrates at low 300-500 °C by electron cyclotron resonance plasma-enhanced CVD (ECR PECVD) using trimethyl aluminium, nitrogen & hydrogen gases. Degree of c-axis orientation, crystallinity, functional groups and chem. composition of films were investigated for various deposition conditions. Degree of c-axis orientation depends on substrate surface condition and improves with increasing substrate temp.and microwave power. c-axis oriented (_ = 4.3°) AlN film was prepared at 500 °C. System design allows the precursor to be dissociated efficiently by ECR plasma.

c-Boron-aluminium nitride alloys prepared by ion-beam assisted deposition
Properties of B-AlN thin films prepared by ion-beam-assisted deposition (IBAD) are reported. Ratio of N to Al + B as determined by Auger electron spectroscopy was consistently 1.0 in all films. c-lattice constant of alloy decreased linearly upto c. 10% BN, suggesting formation of single- phase AlN-wurtzite-BN alloy. Hardness of films was 20-25 GPa, by nanoindentation, and did not change significantly with amount of B. Etch rate in warm phosphoric acid of alloy containing 9% BN was order of magnitude lower than that of pure AlN.
C-SAM to maintain quality standards
Micro-acoustic meas'ts can be used to report defects in surface coatings, e.g cobalt matrix diamond composites on oil well drill bits.
C83-1616/04615. The Photoetching of polycrystalline CdS anodes by cysteine
1 N characteristics of polycrystalline CdS under illumination in aq. basic solution are improved after photoetching by cysteine. Photoelectrochemical improvements originate most probably from photo oxidation of illuminated CdS in contact with H2O/OH- since improvements occur also in basic aq. soln. though to lesser extent.
Cabinet, Speaker Device Constituent Member and Process for Producing them.
Magnesium sheet is covered with aluminium which is then anodised to form alumina. Possibly plasma electrolytic oxidation
Cable covered in solid lubricant
Cable with sheath made by extruder, followed by cooling vessel is passed trough preparatory station to apply treatment to sheath; and lubricant is deposited on sheath in downstream deposition station.
Cable semiconducting shields
Semiconducting composition comprising olefinic polymer and 25-45% carbon black.
CAD in finishing and effluent treatment
Use of computer-aided systems in design of finishing and effluent treatment processes is discussed. Example is given of use to design flow sheet for ion exchange and effluent treatment.
CAD/CAM methods for fabricating stainless steel painting masks
Title method is alternative to electroforming in terms of cost, ease of repair, welding to it. Though both approaches have their strengths, availability of CAD/CAM has made machined masks a much more attractive proposition than hitherto. Photos show masks in use.
Cadmium & Cyanide Recovery Using Combined Ion Exchange & Membrane Extraction
Detailed results on performance of ion exchange units & their regeneration with data on C oxide pretreatment. Results show that method is sensitive to CN:Cd molar ratio, being best at 4:1 or less. Outside this CN leakage occurs through membranes. 6 refs.
Cadmium alloy baths and coatings with special reference to analysis
Reviews plating solns. for Cd-Zn based on cyanide-zincate and Cd-Sn bath based on fluoborate. Analytical methods are described for plating solns. and coatings.
Cadmium coating alternatives for high strength steels - an update
The US DOD continued search to eliminate use of Cd, here 3 coatings are tested in detail. Low Hydrogen Embrittlement (LHE) zinc-nickel, sputtered aluminium & electroplated Al. LHE electroplated Cd and IVD aluminium were baselines against which the 3 methods were tested. Initial coatings and repair coating requirements (to replace brush-plated Cd) were sought. Coating appearance, ease of stripping, adhesion (bend test). Coating failures on titanium substrate are shown. Wet tape paint adhesion test was also used. Breakaway torque adhesion for fasteners is plotted and detailed. Table lists results of hydrogen embrittlement tests. At the end of Phase I testing, electroplated and sputtered Al emerged well, electroplated Zn-Ni did not meet all criteria. Testing throughout was done to civilian or military standards.

Cadmium Compliance Achieved with Electrowinning
High surface area cathodes were used in an electrolytic recovery cell which reduced conc'ns of cadmium & cyanide in rinsewater to close to zero mgs/litre.
